Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative
The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) is designed to pursue Habitat for Humanity’s goal of helping to transform and strengthen communities so that homeowners will be able to live and grow to their fullest potential. In addition to building new homes and rehabilitation, there are three repair components to NRI: A Brush with Kindness (ABWK), Weatherization, and Critical Home Repair (CHR). NRI focuses on those who, because of age, disability, or family circumstance, struggle to care for their homes. Through NRI, homeowners are able to reclaim their homes with pride and dignity.
A Brush with Kindness
ABWK is a program that transforms neighborhoods by performing exterior painting, landscaping, and minor repairs for low-income homeowners.
Weatherization
Weatherization is a systematic repair process for an existing home based on a comprehensive energy audit, resulting in a defined scope of work designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce overall energy consumption, and improve the overall indoor air quality and comfort of the structure. Through weatherization, homeowners are able to improve their homes by reducing financial burdens and living more comfortably.
Critical Home Repair
CHR involves extensive interior and/or exterior work. CHR addresses the health and safety of the individual residences in a neighborhood, strengthens connections within the community, and helps preserve affordable housing stock.
